Smile It's here! LP V2!

Good news everyone!
Layered Panel V2 is finally out.

It had been a long ride with lots of hard work, effort and time spent to make the new version better, easier and nicer looking.

You can find the full feature list + the demo on our main site.

Short F.A.Q.

Q: Will I be able to upgrade my V1 to V2?
A: At the first release no. We do plan to write an upgrade script to allow that later on.

Q: I own an upgrade-able license but you say I can't upgrade to V2. What's the deal here?
A: Simple - as we can't support upgrades we will give any V1 license owner who asks for it an additional license for V2 he can use on another domain he owns.

Q: How do I get a V2 license if I have an upgradeable V1 license?
A: Write a mail to sales@layeredpanel.com and in it put:
1. Your LayeredPanel License Login name + password (from the license email).
2. Your domain name (current one).
Sales will validate your eligibility and will mail you back a new license for LP V2.

Q: How easy is it to install V2?
A: Pretty much the same as V1 but as there are new services you need to ensure the IPs are totally free from any other service on your machine prior to installing.
We highly recommend using our installation service to install on your machine.

Q: Will V2 work side by side with my V1 on the same machine?
A: If the IP-s are different and 100% free then yes.

Q: Will V2 work side by side with my Cpanel/Plesk panel?
A: Well it can in theory but installation is more complex and requires server limiting and panel tweaks. As we discovered this is bad for LP and the other panels we decided that starting with V2 we will no longer support nor perform installation side by side with other panels.
No control panel can work with another panel as they need to manage the same resources. From past experiance and knowledge we don't recommend nor support this.

Q: Should I upgrade? Are there security risks to keeping my V1?
A: No. V1 is secured and bug fixed and we will keep on producing patches for it as needed. There's no rush or need to upgrade or change.

Q: Will my V1 template work on V2?
A: Yes it will. You will be missing some templates like for the email manager and cron manager but your template will work on V2.

Sweet! But uh, why cant we give each site a certain amount of space they can use? I can only edit the traffic... Also we can't limit the amount of emails they can have? What about subdomains? Does it limit that how can we? Shouldn't we be able to limit how often a cron can be ran? Same with, why not have us be able to choose what accounts can and can't have crons? Email? I thought we would be able to change how many MySQL user's/db's each account had? Even domains allowed per account

No offense, I just hope you are still working on it as it doesn't seem as user friendly as v1... Also when I go to a test account, click site email, it says email all users not the person Im emailing... Also I have to say it, I think LayeredPanel is less user friendly now due to the fact that the Admin CP is not as good as it used to be, sorry...

Also... you FAQ you should correct this:
Can domains be www.?
Yes, you must add it from your control panel >> account settings.

Please type in the box, www.yourdomain.com, however http://yourdomain.com will then no longer work

Thats not ture, you just have to create a A record pointing to the Server's IP with the www and it will indeed work

And whats this about:
How do I CHMOD files?
Chmodding files is not necessary and you will find it does not work in FTP. This is because we use a more advanced and complex permissions system than chmodding files.

Can I unzip files?
We do not support files being unzipped from within your account.
Is this true? I hope that didn't get removed...

My first opinion on LPv2 without looking at the backend:

- Admin Panel is no longer as user-friendly and clean as it used to be, like aldo said.
- PHP seems to be the same version, not updated. Don't know about Apache.
Quote:
Your PHP MySQL library version 4.0.24 differs from your MySQL server version 5.0.27. This may cause unpredictable behavior.
- I don't see the option to enable or disable fsockopen in the demo version, but maybe it'll be there.
- The main site looks great (Great job SkinZee), but the integration looks like it was thrown in last minute. Maybe due to me always asking for an update for LPv2's release

Otherwise, GOOD JOB GILAD and the rest of the team! Will look at the code to see if I can make a script to transfer to LPv2.

Ending Statement: I don't think I'll be changing to LPv2 anytime soon with QL. The new features aren't really needed for me, at least, enough for me to migrate. Except, possibly fsockopen(). Also, I only have experience with using bind, so it maybe hard for me to get use to PowerDNS. Possibly just going to make a new host using it.

Oh and that little bug is still there, upload a zip file and you get this error:
Notice: Undefined index: Sure_uncompress_file_s in /var/wkscript/www/fileman.jsp on line 326
onCLick="return confirm('')" CLASS=cmd>

By the way Otto, you have never been able to enable and disable fsockopen() per account

And yeah, the demo looks cobbled together, and the Admin CP seems to bulky, everything is to big, I mean the menu's are nice, the header is nice, but the rest is just to big, I liked the older one better =/

Also, we can't control domains on an account emails, crons or even if they have crons set? Sorry once again, not being mean, just constructive criticism =]

Also, has the LP Bot/detector thing been improved?

It says on http://layeredpanel.com/demo.php

Quote:
A few features have been switched off to prevent frauds and abuse:

Changing of the admin password for this demo
Switching off/on email functionality for users
Switching off/on safe_mode functionality for users
Switching off/on fsockopen functionatly for users
Note that these functions are available, but will have no effect when you try them in this demo.
